Open end spanner sets by size range and jaw type

An open end spanner set earns its place wherever a socket cannot reach: brake unions, fuel lines, cable glands, turnbuckles and any fastener with a pipe or conductor already running through it. Buying as a set rather than singly closes the gaps in a size range, and metric coverage from 6 up to 32 mm handles most general assembly and maintenance. Look first at the jaw. A tighter tolerance and a slim head get into confined joints, while a 15 degree offset lets the spanner be flipped for a finer effective swing in a restricted arc.

Extra flat forgings slide into stacked flange work where a standard head fouls. Self-adjusting jaws suit mixed or worn fastener sizes and save carrying several spanners, though a fixed jaw still transmits more torque without rounding. Chrome vanadium with a satin finish resists corrosion and wipes clean. Check the carrier too, since a roll or clip rail keeps sizes findable on the floor.
